Strictly speaking one only needs to light one candle and if that’s all one can afford or is able to light then that’s fine. The Gemara says, however, that the ideal way to perform the mitzva is to light an extra candle for each night of the festival, and this is the universal custom.
On the first night three blessings are said;
ברוך אתה ה' אלהינו מלך העולם אשר קדשנו במצותיו וצונו להדליק נר של חנוכה
Blessed are you, the Lord our G-d, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments and instructed us to light the chanuka candle.
ברוך אתה ה' אלוהינו מלך העולם שעשה ניסים לאבותינו בימים ההם בזמן הזה
Blessed are you, the Lord our G-d, King of the universe, Who made miracles for our ancestors in those days, in this time.
ברוך אתה ה' אלוהינו מלך העולם שהחיינו וקימנו והגיענו לזמן הזה
Blessed are you, the Lord our G-d, King of the universe, Who has kept us alive, sustained us and brought us to this time.
On the remaining nights the Shehechiyanu blessing is omitted.
If one forgot to recite Shehechiyanu on the first night, he may recite it on the other nights.

Great films! Intense! I especially like the way you show how God helps the Jewish people in their struggles throughout the ages.
